The production of excellent Cabernet Sauvignon has always been the vision of the original founder of Leconfield. Years after its first release in 1977, Leconfield continues to deliver rich and elegant Cabernet Sauvignon wines that receive numerous awards and accolades from wine experts. The is a dark red hued wine that exhibits earthy aromas of blackberry and cassis, woven with hints of nutmeg, cedar and cinnamon that resulted from French oak treatment. The palate features ripe mulberry flavours. This delicious wine matches well with full-flavoured meals such as risottos and tender pink lamb back straps. It can be enjoyed young, but it is bound to develop lovely cedar and cigar box characters if cellared for another decade.
WINERY INFORMATION
Dr Richard Hamilton, the current owner of Leconfield, comes from one of the first Australian winemaking families. His roots can be traced to the first Richard Hamilton, who established Hamilton Vineyards in Adelaide in 1837. As a fifth-generation winegrower, he established Richard Hamilton Wines, his own wine estate at McLaren Vale in 1972. Upon his acquisition of Leconfield in 1981 from his uncle Sydney Hamilton, he turned Leconfield into the lone manufacturing facility for both Richard Hamilton and Leconfield wines.
