Four clones of Nebbiolo grapes were used to craft Longview Saturnus Riserva Nebbiolo. Produced from very low yields, this Adelaide Hills Nebbiolo flaunts a medium brick-red colour. One can sniff alluring and intense fragrances of licorice root and dark cherry, with nuances of violets and roses on its bouquet. This medium-bodied wine is full of fleshy and supple fruit on the palate, fusing with refreshing acidity and firm tannins. It finishes long and dry, but is silky and balanced too. Drink it alongside prosciutto wrapped kingfish with flageolet bean stew, cherry tomatoes and fennel butter.
Nebbiolo is known for producing some of the most profound and long-lived wines, and the same legacy is followed at Longview Vineyard too. Known as one of the oldest continuously producing Nebbiolo vineyards in Australia, Longview releases its Riserva Nebbiolo range only in exceptional vintages. The out-of-the-box quality can be judged from the fact that only five Riserva Nebbiolo wines have been produced over a decade.
