The Glaetzer family initially immigrated from Bradenburg, Germany in the year 1888 and settled in the Barossa Valley region. They started from Germany on board the Nord - Deutscher Lloyd streamer ‘Habsburg’ and docked on Port Adelaide after a journey of seven weeks. They built their home in the country town of Nuriootpa and became one of the earliest viticulturists in the Clare Valley and Barossa Valley regions. After about a century, the head of the family, winemaker Colin Glaetzer opened up a boutique winery that he named ‘Glaetzer Wines.’ This family owned winery produces and sells elegant premium - quality Barossa Valley wines. Today, this winery is managed by Colin’s son and heir Ben. The family has been blessed with skilled and dedicated winemakers and the founding of Glaetzer Wines was much like a rebirth for the Glazetzers whose wines are now a reputed brand in the Australian wine market.
