Pooles Rock Wines

It is believed that in the year 1835, Governor Macquarie sent explorers to open up new routes into Hunter Valley. On a stormy and wild night, the explorers were trying to cross a flooded creek. Cockfighter, the strongest of their horses, drowned bravely in the raging waters while trying to get his rider across to the other side. In the horse’s honour, the creek was named Cockfighter’s Creek. Later on, when convicts were sent over to build a bridge over the river, they were scared out of their wits when they saw Cockfighter’s ghost galloping across the countryside on wild and stormy nights. Thus, the Cockfighter Legend was born.
