Often our Cabernet Merlot is a wine that is not so much “pretty”, but powerful. In the occasional year such as 2007 or 2010 it can look like an ugly duckling, often tannic and closed. We believe that one must trust the quality of the vineyards - natural tannins will soften as the wine ages. Over the first three years in bottle the Cabernet Merlot’s tannins soften, and the fruit begins to sing.
Our 2011 Cabernet Merlot has more perfume than recent vintages, leading one to speculate that it is a wine for early drinking. However, underneath it still carries a core of powerful fruit. This is a wine to leave under the staircase.
This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot that has been matured in French oak for 14 months. The colour is a deep crimson. The nose is deep and brooding, showing red berry fruits, juniper, tobacco, and fine French oak notes. The palate shows a complex ripe array of fruits, finishing dense and powerful.
