Pretty Good

: Vibrant deep garnet colour. Enticing aromas of dark plums and cassis meld with those of nutmeg, tobacco and sandalwood in a classically composed nose. The palate is rich and yet quietly composed, with layers of flavour and tannin linked by fine acidity and the refined dusty tannins of the gravels. Finishes dry and long. Recommended Cellaring: 1 to 10 years from vintage. Rich red meat dishes

WINERY INFORMATION:

In 1876 the floods in New Zealand’s region of Hawkes Bay turned some rivers into the land. After the floods subsided the Ngaruroro River had changed its course and a vista of gravel was left behind on a latitude of 39.2S in a warm sun-filled valley, greened lightly with spring rains. Some were farmed by the Gimblett family, but by most, it was seen as a useless wasteland, only fit to quarry. So a quarry began….almost until the local vignerons saved the land for wine. Legend has it that this mist was used to protect a mythical Maori maiden from the sun as she visited her lover Te Mata. The proportions of the blend change most vintages to reflect conditions of the year and to ensure that we meet a certain 'house style'. It is a wine of richness with an abundance of black fruit flavours and a long structured finish complete with dusty tannins of the area.
