Catherine Vale Wines
Catherine Vale Vineyard was set up in 1993 by Bill and Wendy Lawson after successful teaching careers in Sydney.
During the September school holidays 19 family members and friends joined in the planting of Semillon and Chardonnay grapes . These were planted on 3 different rootstocks. These 2 white varieties grow extremely well in the Hunter Valley.
In 1998 5 years later – changes were beginning to take place in the consumer market . To meet these changes we planted Red grapes. The two varieties we chose originated from Italy – Dolcetto and Barbera. They are from the Piedmont region of Italy near the town of Alba. Cuttings were sourced in Australia.
1998 also saw us grafting Verdelho onto some rootstocks . Grapes from these vines produce our Madeira. Verdelho used for our table wine was grafted onto existing Semillon vines in 2002.
