For about 15 years, Brian had been travelling round the world to manufacture premium - quality wines before he finally decided to return to New Zealand and settle down in Marlborough in 1996. In the valleys of Marlborough, there were a number of vineyards, all of which produced distinct varieties of grapes. At that time, the wines being produced in Marlborough used to be regional blends in which the individual terrier characteristics could not be found. He had witnessed that in many parts of the world distinct vineyard sites used to be celebrated. Thus, an idea occurred to him. He decided to create a wine brand that would promote the various different vineyard sites across the region of Marlborough so that the world could come to know of Marlborough’s true potential. This is how the Mahi label was born. Although it started from small and humble beginnings, it is now a certified organic vineyard.
